The Governing Principles
The Four Governing Principles — Four Readings of One Piece of Work
Not a sequence, not a ladder and not a hierarchy. The four names sit together at the centre of one piece of work, and each one is a separate reading of that same work: Rhythmical, Precise, Calm, Fluent.
RHYTHMICAL The beat stays true to the pace through every turn, transition and change of balance. PRECISE The horse's answer matches the rider's question: exactly when, exactly where and exactly to the degree intended. CALM The horse keeps the power, speed and agility of an athlete while remaining available to its rider. FLUENT The rider's intention becomes the horse's movement. RHYTHMICAL PRECISE CALM FLUENT ONE PIECE OF WORK The four Principles are present in the same piece of work. Read clockwise from the top: Rhythmical · Precise · Calm · Fluent.
